Even after reading this book many times It's still fun because some times I'll read the story to my son ( 5 years old) and only tell a made up story of one of the additional characters. Rather you can observe their movements from the windows. There are stories that take place on every page in which the characters aren't even on the bus. I am sure there is a literary tern for it, but I don't know it. My favorite thing about the book is the under stories. This book is well made, but my kids repeatedly play and 'read' it to one another. Hers is in bad shape due, again, to lots of interaction. She plays with the book by herself and requires it be read to her before bed every night. We are currently on copy number two and I am going to buy copy number three because my 2 1/2 year old daughter is in love with the story and the moving parts. Since he loved it so much it was necessary to buy another copy after ours got tattered from much reading and interaction. My mom bought it for my son when he was about two years old. The illustrations are simultaneously simple and detailed, so a very young child can understand what's happening, while adults and older children are rewarded by the richness and hidden complexity of the drawings. The reader can make up stories about the various characters and locations that appear. But then there are wonderful touches, such as the babies not only go "wah, wah, wah," but their parents' eyes roll towards the heavens while the babies cry! Just the kind of thing to keep adults - and older kids - amused. The wheels on this bus really DO go 'round and 'round, and the door opens and shuts, etc.

The book takes the simple "Wheels on the Bus" song and turns it into an extravaganza of motion and humor. Your kids may use it so much that you have to buy a second copy, but you will NOT feel cheated. Among other things, it is extremely sturdy. Alternatively, you can present it to new parents with instructions to wait until their child is around 18 months.ĭon't be put off by the relatively expensive price - this book is WORTH IT. My own children (now nearly grown) LOVED it and I've given it as a gift many times. It is BY FAR the best one I've ever seen.

Calling this a "pop-up" book doesn't do it justice.
